Critique of Your Park #46

By Michael Dagen on August 11, 2020

while I was sad to see
that most of your park
was closed after dark
I couldn't help but fall
for your unique chic wilderness

lacking any bit of signage
I got lost for mileage
until a limpy dog announced with one single bark
hey dummy stop trying so hard to date a park

not being one to stay in his lane
my hubris has been known to cause pain
but I'm working on this in therapy
please believe me

now if I ever get the chance to return
with the agreement lessons I have learned
expect a different kind of man
a different type of explorer completely

for what I have learned so studiously about love
is that it burns in my heart like a flame
never ever to be contained
only needing to be shared
with every creature without care

you see this great fire will burn alone
until another finally decides
to burn with me.

Wanna fight? I bite. #28

By Michael Dagen on January 9, 2018

Heard your heart beating.
A tap on the window…let me in…let me in
                                                                                                              bad directions brought you
here.

You want my body to burn?  Burn it
You want bones to break?  Break them
Take   it   all   out on me.

Then be free.

For awhile
Until another triggers your belief.
Summon the witch mob if you like, but remember I bite.

Living Will #16

By Michael Dagen on June 28, 2017

nothing could be better than dying together
as our love would continue to nourish under feet

you may desire to shed your body by fire
but please consider rotting with me

a white cedar could sprout over our bones,
growing sunward casting all shadows underneath

for twenty-four thousand years our children will hear
the ringing of bells through the trees.

over this time they will witness and guide
the plane’s transition from slavery to free

for as worms feed on dead flesh
there is a shadow devouring humanity

until we take heed of this possibility
we may never truly be free.

Merry Go Round #14

By Michael Dagen on May 27, 2017

Jenna Lee come with me to where the veil blurs
You see fear is a projection in the minds of humans.

The great mill forever grinding souls in the cosmic merry go round
May we will ourselves free of the game, the ride, the earthen school.

For now is the time to pause, break away and create anew
Our bow to love and freedom has finally come dear one.

My Love ~ a Canyon #10

By Michael Dagen on March 18, 2017

last night I spied you
out
the corner of my eye
the image unclear
your predecessor still blurs my vision

I felt you
looking
at and through me

what did you see
what is left of me

our time
not yet
I could not look
this taste so fine
a food
for my lonely patience

my love ~ a canyon
just enough space
2 hold
your glorious emanation

The Cusp of What I Am #7

By Michael Dagen on January 2, 2017

I am the arctic wind on a moonlit winter's night
I am the warm summer breeze lakeside in the shade.

I am the shattering quake sent to bring you to your knees
I am the long smooth rock you lay across to soak up the sun

I am the funnel cloud nightmare from your childhood dreams come true
I am the lift in your kite that takes you to new heights

I am the cracked and blistered drought ridden valley floor
I am the moist fertile soil where seeds sprout and trees grow

I am the dust devil that blows up your skirt
I am the breath used to ignite fire from hot beds of coal

I am the catch for all sprayed poison on its way to rivers.
I am home for fungus and food for worms.

I am a rolling thunder soundtrack to your lovers' quarrel
I am the gust that frees milkweed seeds from their pods

I am molten lava violently released to build new mountains and islands
I am solid bedrock used to anchor skyscrapers

I am the place where you lay your graduated loved ones to rest
I am whispering prayers of thanks for this life.

It Happens #1

By Michael Dagen on January 27, 2016

I live on a deserted island

there are others here, but without you...
this realm -> deserted.
it takes me all night to get to you in my dreams and when I do our conversation is easy, as always, but then I awaken
some days when I look at the birds I know you are too.
some days when I hear the birds I imagine your boat crashing on my shore with a knock at the door...
what happens next devours all that ever existed.
I can't tell you how long I've been here waiting.
